NPU-T: Pet Education Day Saturday

Atlanta City Councilmember Joyce M. Sheperd and Fulton County Commissioner Joan Garner host Pet Education Day Saturday

ATLANTA – Please join District 12 Atlanta City Councilmember Joyce M. Sheperd and District 6 Fulton County Commissioner Joan Garner for a Pet Education Day on  Saturday, July 23 in Perkerson Park, 770 Deckner Avenue.

From 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., residents can come out to get pet information, get pets vaccinated, get routine pet checkups, or have their pets microchipped.

“As a pet owner, I know that pets can become an important part of one’s family and of our community,” said Councilmember Sheperd. “This event is a perfect opportunity to disseminate information to our communities about pet safety, vaccinations, resources, and more.”

“My pet is a member of my family and our community,” said Commissioner Garner. “Being a responsible pet owner is important and means more than feeding and housing. Maintaining a healthy environment for our pets by keeping them safe, vaccinated, and registered makes our community safe.”

The goal of the event is to increase spaying and neutering efforts and educate the public regarding pet care and responsibility.

“In the wake of recent dog attacks, it is important that we learn about responsible pet ownership and overall pet safety,” Sheperd said.

“Fulton County is committed to saving animals and providing a safe environment to our citizens,” Garner said. “In hosting an event of this magnitude with Councilmember Shepherd, we are advocating for safety and increased awareness to the plight of homeless pets.”

Staff from the Atlanta Humane Society, Fulton County Animal Control, and pet experts will be in attendance to answer questions on pet health, training, and other pet-based issues.

For more information, please call Sheperd’s office at (404) 330-6053.
