Announcement from the Westview Community:
Neighbors, Historic Fire Station #17 at the corner of Ralph David Abernathy Blvd and Cascade Ave will be getting a much needed renovation!
The fire station was built in 1920 and served our neighborhood and the surrounding area for almost 60 years. In 1976 the fire station was closed due to budget cuts. The city would later lease the building to the YWCA for use as Cascade House, transitional housing for women with children. In 2014 the YWCA made the decision to close Cascade …House and terminated their lease due to budget constraints and a refocusing of their mission. At that time the city decided to sell the surplus property.
Vantage Realty Partners (vantageatl.com) was the highest bidder. The plans for the fire station are to create a public space, such as a restaurant or coffee shop, on the bottom floor and loft-style offices on the second floor. The project hopes to be a catalyst for positive change on the block and the surrounding neighborhood.
What would you like to see in this space? Please take a minute to complete the survey and leave comments below.
