Recap on Urban Agriculture Committee

Welcome to the Urban Ag page of the NPU-T Atlanta blog!  I am excited to be a contributor.

I just wanted to update the NPU-T community on what the Urban Ag. committee is up to this year.  Firstly, we are applying for a grant from the USDA called the Community Food Project Planning Grant:

“Community Food Projects are designed to increase food security in communities by bringing the whole food system together to assess strengths, establish linkages, and create systems that improve the self-reliance of community members over their food needs. These grants are intended to help eligible private nonprofit entities that need a one-time infusion of federal assistance to establish and carry out multipurpose community food projects. Projects are funded from $10,000-$300,000 and from 1 to 3 years.”

Information on the specific application process is supposed to be released this week, so we as a committee are looking to meet sometime soon.

I would also like to welcome a relatively new garden to the NPU-T Urban Agriculture Committee, the People’s Victory Garden at 1465 South Gordon in Westview!  Started by Amakiasu and Chinyelu, community members are encouraged to volunteer with them every two weeks.

Thanks for checking out the Urban Ag. page; keep coming back as updates will be frequent!
